2013/5/5- Rio Camuy Caves

The Rio Camuy Cave System has 16 known entrances. River City Photography's trip to the main park and administrative buildings took us east of San Sebastion and Lares, on the northern side of the island. The dense, tropical forest surrounding the entrance makes for an almost mystical trolly ride from the parking lot and gift store. You feel transported back in time and like you are being taken to a very remote location for a grand adventure. Inside the caves you get to see the mechanics or cave formation in action. Stalagmites and stalactites, sink holes, flowing walls, and a raging underground river are among the tour highlights. Gaping cave mouths with stone teeth make you second guess your assumption that this is mere rock and not some hungry, giant beast. Continue reading
